Born and raised in Saskatchewan and grandson of CCF MP Percy Wright, Jimmy has a strong connection to the prairies. Growing up with four sisters, The Beatles and multi-genre AM radio, Jimmy’s first guitar came at the age of 13 and he was soon rocking town halls and high schools all across the province and into the northern U.S. By 19 Jimmy was touring western Canada often playing 4 sets a night 6 nights a week with Regina based band Island.
Edmonton alt-country band and CBS Recording Artists One Horse Blue snapped Jimmy up to play lead guitar and sing on their third album Living On the Edge. After more touring Jimmy decided to try the Toronto music scene and attended Trebas Institute of Recording Arts. He put together Exposure who received a Factor New Talent Award and Jimmy’s song Serious Matters was selected for Toronto radio stations Q-107’s Homegrown compilation.
On the move again, Jimmy decided to test Vancouvers waters. There he formed Population and again was selected for a compilation cd release. Population also produced an independent video for Jimmy’s song Sent To the Moon that received rotation on MuchMusic.
Presently residing in Regina, Jimmy was featured on CBC’s The Afternoon Edition. His song We Share Everything was selected best song at a Songwriting Workshop hosted by Sylvia Tyson, Murray McLauchlan and Barney Bentall in Saskatoon.
